The George Washington Memorial Bridge (commonly called the AuroraBridge) is a cantilever bridge that carries Aurora Avenue (Washington State Route 99) over the west end of Seattle's Lake Union between Queen Anne and Fremont.
The bridge was dedicated on February 22, 1932, George Washington's 200th birthday.
A local landmark, the Fremont Troll, a deceivingly large, 2-ton cement sculpture of a fantasy-style troll eating a real-life VW Beetle, sits under the bridge on the north side.
The Fremont Bridge is a double-leaf bascule bridge that connects Fremont and 4th Avenues N. 30 feet over Seattle's Fremont Cut between Fremont and Queen Anne.
One of the busiest bascule bridges in the world, according to the Seattle Department of Transportation, the Fremont Bridge opens an average of 35 times a day.
The Fremont Bridge was actually first opened soon after midnight on Friday June 15, 1917, first to "owl cars" - the last run of the trolley's '- and then after 5am the same day to pedestrians and all other traffic.
