History

The original Aurora High School, with origins to 1888 was renamed Dr. G.W. Williams Secondary School in 1962 and continues to operate under that name on Dunning Ave. The school now called Aurora High School was built in 1972. 1888 (MDCCCLXXXVIII) is a leap year starting on Sunday (click on link for calendar) of the Gregorian calendar or a leap year starting on Tuesday of the Julian calendar. ... School colours and mascot

The school colours are red and gold, and the mascot is an eagle. The original mascot of the school was the Golden Gopher but the gopher was buried in the back field and replaced by the eagle in June of 1985.


Interesting facts

Former prime minister Paul Martin visited the school on November 9th 2005 to talk about various topics, including Iraq, Afghanistan and politics.


Clubs and departments

The school has a very strong arts program for drama, music, and art. The music department has several ensembles: Grade Nine Band, Grade Nine Jazz Band, Clarinet Choir, Flute Choir, Grade Ten band, Grade Ten Jazz Band, Grade Eleven Band, Jazz Band, Grade Tweleve Band, and Senior Jazz band, as well as choir.
