Austin A125 Sheerline was a luxury car produced by Austin Motor Company from 1947 to 1954. The Austin Motor Company was British manufacturer of automobiles that rose to be a major motorcar brand, the dominant partner after merger with Morris in the 50s but declining after absorption into British Leyland. ... 1947 was a common year starting on Wednesday (link will take you to calendar). ... 1954 was a common year starting on Friday of the Gregorian calendar. ...
Designed by Austin before world war two but the production began afterwards because of the war industry. It was a very luxurious car just like Rolls Royce and Bentley but it cost a lot less. There were about 8000 built and it's becoming quite rare. There was a Saloon version and a Limousine version and later on there came more versions like a hearse and a ambulance.
After the Sheerline they began producing the A135 Princess, which was mechanically almost exactly the same to the Sheerline.
What happen was that Leonard Lord of Austin (soon to feature largely in the decision to produce the Austin-Healey) had also seen the PW at the show and set into production the similar looking Sheerline.
The Austin 4 litre is of interest to Austin-Healey owners.
No, not quite as Austin, like the DHMC did not have the capacity to produce the car from scratch in the volume desired.
