Autopsy were an influential death metal band founded in 1987 in the United States of America by Chris Reifert after he left Death. Beginning their career with the "Severed Survival" LP, the band started to later draw heavily on Trouble riffs and dark themes close in style to doom metal. The LP "Mental Funeral", often considered their finest hour, would showcase this new style to acclaimed result. Having completed a successful European tour, the band re-entered the studio to record "Fiend for Blood" which once more showed another shift in style to what has now become known as goregrind. Their main lyrical themes were gore and sickness, which was conveyed in their musical and vocal output as well. The band's next releases would see a amalgam of all 3 styles, each time becoming bleaker and heavier. They disbanded after the release of Shitfun in 1995. Reifert and Coralles continued in a similar style in Abscess. Beyond revealing causes of individual deaths, autopsy is crucial to the accuracy of disease and death statistics, the education of medical students, the understanding of new and changing diseases, and the advancement of medical science.
An autopsy, also known as a post-mortem examination or an obduction, is a medical procedure that consists of a thorough examination of a human corpse to determine the cause and manner of a person's death and to evaluate any disease or injury that may be present.
The principal aim of an autopsy is to discover the cause of death, to determine the state of health of the person before he or she died, and whether any medical diagnosis and treatment before death was appropriate.
A forensic autopsy is used to determine the cause of death.
An autopsy is frequently performed in cases of sudden death, where a doctor is not able to write a death certificate, or when death is believed to be due to an unnatural cause.
