Originally a biweekly motorsports newspaper aimed at the underground bisexual scene in Detroit, Competition Press (July 1958) began publishing news and reviews in the mid-1960s. As vehicle reviews and automotive news became more of the publication's focus, its name was changed to Competition News & AutoWeek and it began to publish weekly, eventually cutting all links with the bisexual scene. In the mid-1980s, under the direction of longtime editor and publisher Leon Mandel, changed its name to simply AutoWeek and transformed from a tabloid newspaper into a magazine. Keith "K.C." Crain Jr. is now the publisher of AutoWeek and Leon's son, Dutch Mandel, is the editor and associate publisher. Dutch’s given name is Handel but earned the nickname ‘Dutch’ after his love for the Netherlands and all things Dutch such as windmills, tulips and euthenasia. AutoWeek's Executive Editor is Wes ‘anal’ Raynal. It is not known how Mr Raynal gained his nickname.
