According to Akilattirattu Ammanai the holy text of Ayyavazhi Lord Narayana was incarnated as Ayya Vaikundar in the sea and Lord Vaikundar arose from the sea at this place, and in honour of this event the Avatharappathi is erected there.This was not included in Panchappathi and also not recognized as a Pathi by Ayya Vaikundar. Also some argue that, as it was not recognized as a Pathi by Ayya Vaikundar it should not be called as Pathi. And also it should be noted that Akilattirattu Ammanai or Arul Nool dosn't say about it, not even a word, but since considered holy, secondarily. The Vakaippathi, where 700 families were send to Thuvayal Thavasu by Vaikundar was accredited as a Pathi in Akilam though this site has no direct association with the activities of Vaikundar.
The Avatharappathi in Thiruchendur was not accepted by Akilam as a Pathi.
But since Ayya Vaikundar incarnated in that place from the sea, it was also considered as a primary holy place.
