Avenue Montaigne, like Bond Street in London, is a street in Paris specialising in high fashion. Dior, Chanel and Valentino have shops on the street as well as jewellers like Bvlgari. In the 1980's Avenue Montaigne was considered the most important thoroughfare in France as regards high fashion, clothes as well as accessories and important designers set up there. Avenue Montaigne was now more important than the Rue du Faubourg St-HonorĂ©. The Avenue owes much to the LVMH group who have made the street what it is. Avenue Montaigne was first named Allee des Veuves because women in mourning gathered there but the street has changed much since those days of the early 18th century. The Mabille balls, sparkling Saturday night attractions in the 19th century, gave the Avenue some renown. The colour and sparkle of those nights heralded its days as a great centre for haute couture in the 20th century.


Avenue Montaigne is now La Grande Dame of fashion.
