Avishai Cohen

Avishai Cohen (born 1970, in Jerusalem) is an Israeli jazz bassist, composer and arrangement. He was raised up by a musical family, and as a child he started playing piano, but later moved to the bass guitar. After playing in Jeruslem for a few years, he moved to New York in the beginning of the 90's. Avishai Cohen was born and raised in Israel.
Cohen studied at the Music and Arts High School in Jerusalem and after two years enlisted in the Israeli Army, Avishai moved to New York City.
Cohen also worked with Panamanian pianist, Danilo Perez and was later discovered by Chick Corea; becoming the bass player for Chick's ground breaking group "Origin".

Later this year and into 2005, Avishai Cohen will be releasing his sixth recording, his second on Razdaz Recordz, entitled "At Home," which includes Jeff Ballard, Diego Urcola and Anne Drummond, along with his dynamic working quartet of Mark Guiliana (Drums), Samuel Bar-sheshet (Piano), and Yosvany Terry, (Saxophones/Chekere).
Avishai will be on a worldwide 2004-05 tour with his current working group, in support of this new, fresh and energy-packed musical project.
Avishai sold out at New York's Blue Note March 10 - 13, and a national tour is taking place with full promotional support for his new CD, 'At Home', released in early 2005.
