Avon is a town located in Eagle County, Colorado. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 5,561.


Geography

Avon is located at 39°38'18" North, 106°31'18" West (39.638254, -106.521797)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 20.7 km² (8.0 mi²). 20.7 km² (8.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.25% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 5,561 people, 1,890 households, and 971 families residing in the town. The population density is 268.7/km² (695.9/mi²). There are 2,557 housing units at an average density of 123.6/km² (320.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 72.52% White, 0.79% African American, 0.68% Native American, 0.99% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 21.79% from other races, and 3.16% from two or more races. 39.96% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 1,890 households out of which 27.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.4% are married couples living together, 5.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 48.6% are non-families. 21.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 1.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.81 and the average family size is 3.23.


In the town the population is spread out with 20.6% under the age of 18, 17.5% from 18 to 24, 47.1% from 25 to 44, 13.3% from 45 to 64, and 1.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 29 years. For every 100 females there are 141.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 144.0 males.


The median income for a household in the town is $56,921, and the median income for a family is $52,339. Males have a median income of $33,053 versus $30,703 for females. The per capita income for the town is $30,115. 13.9% of the population and 7.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 13.1% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
