Avon is a village located in Livingston County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 2,977. The village is named after a river in England.

The Village of Avon is located within the Town of Avon on US Route 20.

Geography

The Genesee River passes west of the village.

Avon is located at 42°54'37" North, 77°44'51" West (42.91029, -77.747687)¹.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 7.8 km² (3.0 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 2,977 people, 1,151 households, and 749 families residing in the village. The population density is 383.1/km² (992.8/mi²). There are 1,215 housing units at an average density of 156.4/km² (405.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 95.70% White, 1.85% Black or African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.81% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.24% from other races, and 1.14% from two or more races. 0.97% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,151 households out of which 34.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.2% are married couples living together, 9.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.9% are non-families. 30.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.54 and the average family size is 3.20.

In the village the population is spread out with 27.8% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 29.9% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 90.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.4 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $40,109, and the median income for a family is $53,105. Males have a median income of $40,156 versus $27,470 for females. The per capita income for the village is $22,758. 7.5% of the population and 6.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 8.7% of those under the age of 18 and 6.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
