Story
Ayla is the third female party member met by Crono and his friends, and is the physically strongest by far. She hails from the prehistoric era of the game (65,000,000 B.C.) where she is the Chief of Ioka Village. Ayla rescues the others from a band of Reptites (humanoid dinosaurs who were eventually wiped out by Lavos' arrival) when they come to that era to find Dreamstone which Melchior can use to repair the Masamune. In an ending cutscene of the PlayStation version, Ayla is seen brashly forcing engagement on Kino, her suitor. This displays her confident and strong-willed personality well. Ayla is unable to use magic (having been born before humanity was enabled by Lavos to do so) but is the strongest character in the game in physical stats. She is particularly useful at times when magic is useless or in the scenario where the characters' weapons have been stolen (onboard the Blackbird), as her fists are her only weapons (despite the fact that all related artwork depicts her carying a club). Coupled with the Rage or Frenzy Band skills, Ayla can do an incredible amount of damage to enemies. At level 72, Ayla becomes able to use Iron Fists, which can cause the status effect "Chaos" and at level 96, she is able to use Bronze Fists, which can do up to 9999 damage (the maximum in this game).
