When Ayuthia was captured by the Burmese in 1767, the manuscripts stored in the monastic libraries disappeared during the fire and pillage which took place.
Thus it had happened that since the time of Ayuthia, the kings had preferred to send the heirs-presumptive to a monastery where "meditation" was given a place of special prominence.
