Azapirones are a class of drugs with anxiolytic effects used in the treatment of anxiety. The common azapirones used include buspirone (buspar), gepirone and ipsapirone.


Azapirones are agonists of serotonergic neurotransmission at the 5-HT 1A receptor. Unlike benzodiazepines, azapirones are not addictive and do not induce tolerance.
