B.F. Day Elementary tile mosaic sign created by students and local artists As the longest continually operating public school in Seattle, B.F. Day has a significant heritage. The school was founded in 1892, only three years after the establishment of Washington as the 42nd state, on land donated by the Day family, local farmers and landowners. B.F. Day runs a program for the education of homeless children who are brought to the site daily by school bus along with many other pupils, under the city's public schools transportation plan which aims to reduce segregation within schools and give parents choice in their child's education.
