The Boeing B52 Stratofortress, arguably the world's greatest bomber, was conceived in Seattle during the mid forties under the intense pressure of the cold war, to fulfil an urgent need.
The last B52 to he constructed rolled off the line in 1962, and it is remarkable to note that the basic design was so sound that the Stratofortress has been able to continue its service life into its fifth decade.
