BBC Asian Network is a BBC national radio station based in Birmingham, England, reflecting Asian life, culture and music in the UK. The station broadcasts from Mailbox studios at BBC Birminghamas well as from BBC Leicester studios and Television Centre, London. It broadcasts nationally on DAB and digital TV via satellite, cable and Freeview. It is also available in the Midlands via AM, in the Birmingham area and Leicester (which has some variation in programming from the Birmingham frequency). The BBC Asian Network features programming in English and South Asian Languages across the day. For example on a weekday; 6AM - 2PM English language programming, 2pm - 4pm Hindi/Urdu prgramme; 4pm - 7.20 Drivetime show in english. 7.20 - 7.30 Silver Street; Britain's first Asian radio soap-opera. 7.30 - 10.00 pm Language programme [vaires each day; monday mirupuri, tuesday Bengali, wednesday?; thursday Hindi/Urdu with Sanjay Sharma; Friday: Punjabi programme.] 10.00 - 12.30 is Late night with Adil Ray. 12.30 until 5 as bbc world service. 5 am until 6am; devotional sounds. Criticism The station has been criticized for deliberately appealing to only one ethnic and social group and so re-enforcing divisions between Britain's growing Asian population and the majority white population.
