BBC East Midlands Today is the BBC's regional television news programme for the east midlands region, which is comprises Derbyshire, Leicestershire, southern Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Rutland (note this is different to the political East Midlands region). It broadcasts on BBC ONE from its studio at the space-age BBC centre in Nottingham on London Road, also home to Radio Nottingham, to about 250,000 people. The main transmitter for the programme is Waltham near Melton Mowbray in east Leicestershire. Viewers in south Lincolnshire also have Look North, with stories often being duplicated by both newsrooms. The format of the programme, which is similar to all other BBC local TV news sharing the same title music, began on 16 September 2002, with an update on 6 September 2004. East Midlands Today was established as an independent program in January 1991, having previously been part of the BBC Midlands Today program (which began on 5th October 1987). Midlands Today now covers just the West Midlands.
