The programme launched on the 27 October 1986 together with the daytime television service on BBC One, serving as a replacement to the News at Noon programme. The BBC One O'Clock News has been shown on BBC News 24 since April 2006 , making up the first half hour of the BBC One O'Clock News Hour. Significant differences can be seen between the two halves of the program, as the second half is presented from the News 24 studio by the News 24 presenters. The News 24 team are also on stand by throughout the One O'Clock News in case of a major breaking news story, at which point News 24 will opt-out of the BBC One program. During the headlines and 'coming up' section, BBC One viewers will see a preview of the stories to come from their region, while BBC News 24 viewers will see sports headlines.
