Babbie is a town located in Covington County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 627.

Geography

Babbie is located at 31°18'2" North, 86°19'9" West (31.300460, _86.319293)¹.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 30.0 km² (11.6 mi²). 29.9 km² (11.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.52% water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 627 people, 258 households, and 192 families residing in the town. The population density is 21.0/km² (54.3/mi²). There are 284 housing units at an average density of 9.5/km² (24.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.88% White, 0.16% Black or African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.32% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.16% from other races, and 0.48% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 258 households out of which 29.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.0% are married couples living together, 8.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.2% are non-families. 23.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.43 and the average family size is 2.87.

In the town the population is spread out with 22.3% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 30.1% from 25 to 44, 25.5% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 101.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.8 males.
