Encyclopedia > Bad Brains (album)

Bad Brains The Bad Brains Self Titled album was released by the band in 1982, on ROIR Records, the fourth official release following Pay To Cum. Present on the record is The Bad Brains signature lineup of Hardcore punk backed by intertwined reggae groves. The Album opens with a track assault of five heavy punk tracks, including a cover favorite “Sailin’ On”, the malicious “Attitude” and the response to the unofficial ban in local Washington D.C clubs, “Banned In D.C” where the band gained momentum in their early stages. “Jah Calling” marks the records first reggae track with its dreamy reverb guitars, provided by the band’s Dr. Know, and the steady flowing drum beat as played by Earl Hudson. Breaking into “Supertouch/Shitfit”, Lead vocals of HR rip through the track in his uniquely dirty, but highly melodically skilled, voice leaving an imprint on the recording. Later giving way to tracks such as the reggae heavy “Leaving Babylon”, The Bad Brains provide recordings considered important to their catalog such as “Pay To Cum”, “I”, and “I Luv I Jah”.
