Bad Freienwalde is a town in the Märkisch-Oderland district, in Brandenburg, Germany. It is situated on an old branch of the Oder River, 15 km east of Eberswalde, and 50 km northeast of Berlin. Pop. (2005) 13,087. It has a small palace, built by the Great Elector, an Evangelical and a Roman Catholic church, and manufactures of furniture, machinery, &c. The neighboring forests and its medicinal springs make it a favorite summer resort of the inhabitants of Berlin. A new tower commands a fine view of the Oderbruch. Freienwalde first appeared as a town in 1364.
