Badenoch and Strathspey was created in 1975 as a one of the eight council disricts of the Highland local governmentregion of Scotland. As such it consisted of the traditional areas of Badenoch and Strathspey, plus Grantown-on-Spey (which has history as a Scots-speakingenclave in an otherwise Gaelic-speaking area).
