Bagerhat, described as the Historic Mosque City, is a World Heritage Site, and is located in Khulana district of Bangladesh. Bagerhat is situated on the confluence of the rivers Ganges and the Brahmaputra. The place was earlier known as Khalifatabad, and was founded by the Turkish General Ulugh Khan. The heritage city of Bagerhat has a number of mosques and monuments of early Islamic period, and they have been mostly built by using bricks. The construction of the city reveals a high level of architectural skill and aesthetic sense.
