Bagpat is an ancient town in Uttar Pradesh state of northern India. It is the administrative headquarters of Bagpat District. It was founded by the Pandava brothers of Mahabharata as Vyagprastha. Uttar Pradesh (Hindi: उत्तर प्रदेश, Urdu: اتر پردیش), also popularly known by its abbreviation UP, is the most populous and fifth largest state in the Union of India. ... Baghpat district is one of the districts of Uttar Pradesh state of India, and Bagpat town is the district headquarters. ... In the Mahabharata, the Pandava are the five acknowledged sons of Pandu, by his two wives Kunti and Madri. ... The Baghpat city is located on the banks of river Yamuna at 28 deg 57’ North Latitude and 77 deg 13’ East Longitude. It is 52 KM from Meerut City and is on the main Delhi –Sharanpur Highway around 40 KM from Delhi toward north.


Baghpat District was established as a separate district in 1997. Prior to District, Baghpat was a Tehsil under Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh.
