Bagpat is an ancient town in Uttar Pradesh state of northern India. It is the administrative headquarters of Bagpat District. It was founded by the Pandava brothers of Mahabharata as Vyagprastha. The Baghpat city is located on the banks of river Yamuna at 28 deg 57’ North Latitude and 77 deg 13’ East Longitude. It is 52 KM from Meerut City and is on the main Delhi –Sharanpur Highway around 40 KM from Delhi toward north.
Baghpat District was established as a separate district in 1997. Prior to District, Baghpat was a Tehsil under Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh.
