Different Types of BAH (435 words)
There are several types of BAH to satisfy various housing situations that occur among military members.
Under most circumstances, you receive BAH for the location where you are assigned, not where you live.
BAH II BAH-II is the housing allowance for members in particular circumstances, such as members returning to CONUS from Overseas, reservists on active duty less than 20 weeks, etc. It does not vary by geographic location.
BAH Without and DIF (243 words)
BAH "without dependents" is payable to SSG and below without dependents who do not occupy government quarters at their permanent duty station with installation commander's approval and statement of non-availability of billeting space from housing office.
A soldier married to another soldier is not recognized as a primary dependent for the purpose of BAH.
BAH DIF is equal to the difference between the BAH-II W/D and BAH-II W/O rate for the soldier's pay grade.
