Recent events According to Roy Morgan research (December 2006), 3.75 million Australians purchased bread from a specialty bakery in a seven-day period, with 49 per cent of purchases from Bakers Delight. With revenue from its Australian operations expected to reach $450M for 2006/07, Bakers Delight has a 14.4 per cent share of the Australian bread market, almost four times that of its closest competitor. Of Bakers Delight’s franchised outlets, 40 per cent are owned by franchisees that own more than one site. The company received the Franchise Council of Australia’s "Franchise of the Year" award in 2001 and 2002. Bakers Delight has 35 outlets in New Zealand and 42 in Canada trading under the COBS Bread brand, and entered the US market in 2007 with the opening of a bakery in Seattle. Global sales turnover for Bakers Delight/COBS Bread is expected to exceed $500m for the 2006/2007 financial year.
