Gold 2004 Athens Welterweight

Bakhtiyar Artayev (born March 14, 1983) is a Kazakhstani boxer who competed in the welterweight (69 kg) category at the 2004 Summer Olympics and won the gold medal. In the final, Artayev beat Lorenzo Aragon Armenteros of Cuba with a score of 36-26. He was the Winner of the Val Barker Trophy for Outstanding Boxer at the 2004 Olympic Games. He won the bronze medal at the 2005 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Mianyang, China. Aragon lost to Kazakhstan's Bakhtiyar Artayev, who was named the tournament's best boxer for his surprising run through the welterweight division.
Rigondeaux returned strongly from his loss in the title fight at last year's World championships — and he will be 27 in 2008, when he could attempt to tie the Olympic record with three straight gold medals.
Artayev surprised the crowd by pounding Aragon in a 36-26 victory.

Kazakhstan's Bakhtiyar Artayev extended his brilliant Olympic run by beating Cuba's Lorenzo Aragon in the welterweight final of the Athens boxing tournament.
Artayev, who had defeated double Olympic gold medallist Oleg Saitov of Russia in the semi-finals, won a 36-26 decision after a fierce contest.
His defeat means Cuba will leave the tournament with five golds, one more than their tally of four from each of the last two Games.
