Balad is a town in the Middle Shabelle region of Somalia. It located about 30 kilometers north of the capital city of Mogadishu in the direction of Jowhar. The town is dominated economically by the Warsangali (Abgal) and Da'ud clans.[1] The Shebelle River (with numerous spelling variations, including Shabele and Shabell, sometimes with Wabe or Webi prepended, Shabeelle in Somalia) begins in the highlands of Ethiopia, and then flows southeast into Somalia towards Mogadishu. ... Mogadishu Mogadishu (Somali: Muqdisho, Italian and Spanish: Mogadiscio), a city in East Africa on the Indian Ocean, serves as the nominal capital of anarchic Somalia. ... Jauhar (sometimes written jowhar) was originally the voluntary death on a funeral pyre of the queen or the royal women of defeated Rajput cities or forts in order to avoid capture. ...
