Balder the Brave is a fictional character in Marvel Comics' Thor, based on the god Balder of Norse mythology. He is the son of Odin, Lord of Asgard and Frigga, the queen of the gods. He is a friend of Thor and the Warriors Three and is known for his valor and courage. His hair became white due to his ordeal in Helheim, the realm of death. Balder ruled Asgard for a period of time after Odin was believed killed in battle with Surtur. During the war with Seth, the Egyptian god of death, he siphoned the powers of Thor who was believed to be dead. This caused his hair to turn brown. He has in the past been the lover of Karnilla the Norn Queen, who is otherwise an enemy of Asgard. Due to her betrayal to the throne of Asgard, Balder was also instrumental in causing her death.
