Baldwin is a town located in Cumberland County, Maine. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,290.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 94.1 km² (36.3 mi²). 91.4 km² (35.3 mi²) of it is land and 2.7 km² (1.0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.84% water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 1,290 people, 493 households, and 385 families residing in the town. The population density is 14.1/km² (36.5/mi²). There are 577 housing units at an average density of 6.3/km² (16.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.91% White, 0.31% African American, 0.16% Native American, 0.31% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.23% from two or more races. 0.47% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 493 households out of which 31.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.1% are married couples living together, 7.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.9% are non-families. 16.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
