In 1961, a Balkans Cup for clubs from Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Turkey, and Yugoslavia was introduced. It was played (at least) 27 times. The competition never carried much importance in the countries concerned, in contrast to the (much older but also discontinued) Balkan Cup for national teams. 1961 (MCMLXI) was a common year starting on Sunday (link will take you to calendar). ... Balkan Cup - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (373 words)
The Balkans Cup was an international football tournament played on and off between 1929 and 1980 between countries from the Balkan region.
In the following cups the system was change with teams playing each other only once each and the instead of taking 3 years to compete it was change to one week.
In 1948 the Balkans Cup expanded to 7 teams with Poland and Czechoslovakia entering the tournament.
