Ballinteer is located approximately 6 miles from the city centre as the crow flies, to the west is Rathfarnham (Ráth Fearnáin), to the east is Sandyford (Áth an Ghainimh), to the south are the Dublin Mountains and to the north is Dundrum (Dún Droma).
