2. Balta is a town in Ukraina, near the Nistre river. In 1924, Stalin created a Moldavian ASSR (Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic) in Ukraine, with Balta as its Capital. The republic had Romanian as its official language and officialized the Latin script.
