The Bullets, who had lost their final two playoff games in 1965 -- and were swept in three games in 1966 -- had thus dropped 11 consecutive playoff games entering Game 3 of the Knicks series.
The Bullets advanced to the NBA Finals with their victory over the Knicks, but were swept by the Bucks in four games.
Hayes and Unseld would lead the Bullets to the NBA Finals in 1975, 1978 and 1979; but they were fortunate to make the playoffs in their first year together.
