Bamboo Shoots[1] is an alternative dance-rock band from New York City. Formed in 2004, the band consists of long-time friends Avir Mitra (lead vocals, guitar) and Karl Sukhia (backup vocals, bass and keyboards), the group's primary songwriters and musical collaborators for more than a decade. They are joined by Shiv Puri (drums), Ankur Patel (dhol, tabla and percussion) and Ahmed Mahmoud (lead guitar).


After touring with Plain White T's as part of mtvU's Summer Concert Series, the band has been recording its first major-label album in Sausalito, California with producer Jerry Harrison from the Talking Heads.[2] In March 2008, Avir Mitra, the lead singer and guitarist of Bamboo Shoots was featured in the Virgin America ad campaign for their airline.
