Bananaphone is the name of a children's album, released in 1994.The title track's lyrics describe the bananaphone, a combination of a banana and a telephone. The song uses many puns ("It's a phone with appeal!") and nonce words like "bananular" and "interactive-odular" as Raffi extols the virtues of his unique telephone. It has become a significant internet meme. On September 4, 2007, Bananaphone received what is thought to be its first ever full play on a commercial radio station when John Warburton played it on his breakfast show on 96.2 The Revolution with the promise that it would cheer people up. A snippet of the song had previously been played on the show after being found by production assistant Jim Hall. Flash animations and films based on the song In 2004, Dave Teatro created a flash animation using the song "Banana Phone". It has become incredibly popular. Dave Teatro received many emails pleading him to make a sequel. Only fifteen days later he made a second one but only appeared to be a prank.[1] A few films have also been created based on the animation by Dave Teatro featuring the song "Banana Phone". Brian Hsu of kruxialflicks.com has created the more popular remake. It contains the main story including extended scenes. In August 2007, the 'Bananaphone' song has currently been offered as a purchasable ring tone in the UK, however there are no clues as to if any money made by this song are being passed onto its original owner. Ads for this 'ringtone' are shown on Sky TV channels ads. The song has also gained popularity on the video sharing site Youtube, after featuring in a fan-made video in the popular online series, the Potter Puppet Pals.
