Barbara Martin was a short lived Primette and Supreme who joined the group after the departure of Betty Mc Glown in 1960. Martin wasn't noted for being the best singer but she did a few leads on the Primettes songs. She was also the Primette in attendance when Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson, and Diana Ross (then known as Diane) tried to score a deal with Motown founder Berry Gordy. Martin, Wilson, Ross, and Ballard became studio singers and handclapped for other leading groups. Finally the four were signed to Motown as The Supremes, a name that Ballard had chosen, in 1961. Martin's vocals appear on the Meet The Supremes album although her picture didn't. She departed The Supremes later in 1961 leaving Ballard, Ross, and Wilson a trio.
