Bargen's statistics were excellent, but more important, he was involved in nearly every aspect of the game, whether he was drawing the charge or finding a cutter to the basket with a bounce pass or wrestling a pile of people for a loose ball.
Bargen's play also set an example for his teammates, and freshman forward Oluoma Nnamaka responded with 11 points and eight rebounds -- five of them offensive -- in 32 minutes.
Bargen scored on an offensive rebound, Mueller notched three free throws (redeeming himself after missing the rim altogether on one free throw) and Nnamaka sank a foul shot and slithered through two defenders for a layin to lead an 8-2 run for a 46-40 lead.
Bargen, 36, is an assistant at Long Beach State in California and before that was on the staff at Kansas State University.
Bargen said he believes he is well-prepared to become a head coach and he and his family are anxious to return to Nebraska, where both he and his wife were born and raised.
Bargen added that he appreciates the chance to become a head coach and the fact that he and his wife will be within driving distance of their parents and their childrens grandparents in Nebraska.
