The title of Baron Howth was created in the Peerage of Ireland c. 1425. In 1767, the 15th Lord Howth was created Earl of Howth and Viscount St Lawrence, also in the Peerage of Ireland. The fourth earl was granted a UK peerage as Baron Howth in 1881, but all the titles became extinct upon his death in 1909. The Peerage is a system of titles of nobility which exists in the United Kingdom and is one part of the British honours system. ... HOWTH, a sea-port, post-town, and a parish, in barony of COOLOCK, county of DUBLIN, and province of LEINSTER, 9 miles (N. by E.) from Dublin City; containing 1706 inhabitants, of which number, 797 are in the town.
Laurence, which Almaric, third baron, assumed in fulfilment of a vow previously to his victory over the at Danes near Clontarf, in a battle fought on the festival of that saint.
The living is a rectory, in the diocese of Dublin, united to the vicarages of Baldoyle, and Kilbarrack, together forming the union and the corps of the prebend of Howth in the cathedral of St. Patrick, in the patronage of the Archbishop ; the tithes amount to £231.
