Encyclopedia > Baron Newport

The Earldom of Bradford has been created twice, once in the Peerage of England and once in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. The first creation, which occurred in 1694, was in favour of Francis Newport. The earldom became extinct in 1762 when the fourth Earl died without heirs.

The second creation came in 1815, when the Sovereign made Orlando Bridgeman, 2nd Baron Bradford an Earl. The Earl's subsidiary titles are: Viscount Newport (created 1815) and Baron Bradford (1794).
