Career

James Raschke started in wrestling in 1966 in the American Wrestling Association as a referee. He was soon wrestling under the name of Jim Raschke, playing off of his amateur wrestling notoriety in the area. He eventually changed his ring name to Baron Von Raschke and claimed to be from Germany. In the 1970s Von Raschke would wrestle the top men of the sport as well as members of the audience, to prove how tough wrestlers really were.
In fact, it was Raschke’s credentials as an amateur that brought him to the attention of Verne Gagne, who served as his trainer in the pro ranks.
Raschke was a major draw in almost every territory across the United States, serving as a challenger for the World titles of the WWWF, AWA and NWA.

Raschke played football and wrestled at Omaha North high school, where he won the 1958 Nebraska state heavyweight wrestling championship as a high school senior.
Baron and Mad Dog started tagging together but before their team could gel, Mad Dog was injured in an automobile accident.
The Baron captured his first singles title of his career in Montreal defeating Eduardo Carpentier for the IWA championship on November 27th 1967.
