Barrowford is a large village and civil parish in the Pendle district of Lancashire, England. It is situated to the north of Nelson on the other side of the M65 motorway, and forms part of the Burnley/Nelson conurbation. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 6,039. Barrowford is situated on the Gisburn Turnpike the original Toll House can still be seen this house now forms a part of the Pendle Heritage Centre. Barrowford was heavily reliant on the cotton mills for it's employment, however the mills have all long since closed and the town is now a lovely place to visit. Barrowford is located on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal and a series of locks lead to the highest section of the canal and about a mile on the Leeds side of the canal is Foulridge Tunnel known locally as the mile tunnel. The village has two rivers, Pendle water flows through the town with lovely trout that can often be seen in the gin clear waters. The other river is Colne water, which joins Pendle water behind the site of the now disposed Samuel Holden cotton mill, this river flows down from the moors above the town of Colne, again this river holds good trout.
