Voor Somers is dit geen theorie maar een bloedserieuze zaak.
Dit is bij uitstek een liberaal offensief waarmee hij zich duidelijk onderscheidt van en afzet tegen het extreem rechtse gedachtengoed van het Vlaams Blok.
In zijn boek becijfert Bart Somers dat in zijn stad in een periode van 6 jaar zowat iedereen te maken heeft gehad met kleine of grote vormen van criminaliteit.

Hier komt Somers’ “aap" reeds "uit de mouw”: waar het hem in zijn optredens naar aanleiding van de racistische geweldplegingen politiek bovenal om te doen is, is het gebeuren te gebruiken als een retorische hefboom om af te rekenen met het zogenaamde “doelgroepenbeleid”.
Anderzijds, hoe partijpolitiek bruikzaam Somers’ “trouvaille” kan zijn in het politieke “spel” in Vlaanderen, bleek nog enkele dagen geleden, tijdens het racismedebat in het Vlaamse Parlement (verslag in DM, 26/5/06).
Somers, wiens logisch vermogens, zoals we al konden vaststellen, niet optimaal functioneren (of: willen functioneren), vervormde probleemloos de daadwerkelijk geuite bewoordingen tot een generaliserende beschuldiging jegens “àlle” Mechelse politieagenten ("groepsdenken", weet je wel); en het stadsbestuur legde in eerste instantie zelfs klacht neer (!).
