It is the site of the school's indoor track facilities. It was built in 1914 and 1915 as an indoor athletic venue and field house.[citation needed] It was named for Col. Frank A. Barton, Class of 1891, the first ROTC commandant at Cornell.[citation needed] It has been used at various times as the home of the basketball and volleyball teams. It served the ROTC as an armory during World War II.[citation needed] After the opening of Newman Arena, the building was remodeled into a premier indoor track facility. It is also the largest indoor track facility in North America and for a time, it was the largest unpillared room in existence.[citation needed] This is about the university. ...
