Bartonville is a village located in Peoria County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 6,310.


Geography

Bartonville is located at 40°38'43" North, 89°39'37" West (40.645387, -89.660364)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 21.9 km˛ (8.4 mi˛). 20.8 km˛ (8.0 mi˛) of it is land and 1.1 km˛ (0.4 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 4.97% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 6,310 people, 2,601 households, and 1,810 families residing in the village. The population density is 303.4/km˛ (786.2/mi˛). There are 2,699 housing units at an average density of 129.8/km˛ (336.3/mi˛). The racial makeup of the village is 98.08% White, 0.40% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.38% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.33% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. 0.97% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 2,601 households out of which 29.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.4% are married couples living together, 9.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.4% are non-families. 25.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.43 and the average family size is 2.90.


In the village the population is spread out with 23.1% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 28.5% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 94.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.5 males.


The median income for a household in the village is $40,766, and the median income for a family is $49,909. Males have a median income of $36,324 versus $24,214 for females. The per capita income for the village is $20,580. 7.0% of the population and 4.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 12.4% of those under the age of 18 and 1.4% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
