The Coast Guard Basic Training Honor Graduate Ribbon was first created on March 3, 1984 with the first presentation in April of that same year. The Basic Training Honor Graduate Ribbon is presented to those service members who graduate in the top three percent of their basic training instruction class.
Retroactive presentations of the Basic Training Honor Graduate Ribbon may be awarded upon application from the service member to the United States Coast Guard. In such cases, the award will be presented for basic training graduation prior to 1984, only with supporting documentation and a written request from the service member.
Air Force
The Air Force Basic Military Training Honor Graduate Ribbon was established in April 1976 by order of the Air Force Chief of Staff, GeneralDavid Charles Jones. The decoration is awarded to graduates of Air Force basic training who have obtained an honor graduate designation and demonstrate excellence in all areas of academic and military training.
The Air Force Basic Military Training Honor Graduate Ribbon is a one time decoration and may not be awarded retroactively.
Recruit training is the initial indoctrination and instruction given to new military personnel, typically in the enlisted ranks, while trainee officers often start in an officer training academy on a much longer training, often at college level since warfare became largely technological.
Army and Marine recruits are trained in basic marksmanship with regularly assigned weapons, field maintenance of weapons, hand-to-hand combat, first aid, protective equipment usage, and basic survival techniques.
Basictraining for Marines is 13-week long program, which is followed by infantry training which is mandatory for Marines of all military occupational specialties (MOS).
Ribbon: The Ribbon is predominately red, with a narrow blue center stripe flanked on either side by a narrow white stripe, and a narrow white stripe at the outer edge.

Ribbon: The ribbon has a thin stripe of red in the center, flanked on either side by a narrow stripe of yellow, thin stripe of red, wide stripe of yellow, and a narrow stripe of green at the edges, or predominately yellow with three red stripes at the center and green stripes at the edges.
