Batiste is the softest of the lightweight opaque fabrics. It is made of cotton, wool, polyester, or a blend. Lightweight opaque fabrics are very thin and light but not as transparent as sheer fabrics. The distinction between the two is not always pronounced. End uses include apparel and furnishings. Organdy (a sheer fabric), lawn, and batiste begin as the same gray goods. They differ from one another in the way they are finished. Major General John Batiste is a retired officer of the United States Army.
Batiste declined a promotion to the rank of Lieutenant General and subsequently asked to be retired from active duty, because he was concerned about U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld's policies concerning the war.
Batiste commented on the case of Steven D. Green, a former private, who is alleged to have been the ringleader of a plot to rape and murder Abeer Qasim Hamza, and the murder of her family.
On all three shows, Batiste said that, although a plethora of retired generals were now speaking out, it hadn't been a "coordinated effort" and that he hadn't even talked to the other ones.
Batiste agreed with Harry Smith from the Early Show on CBS when he said that from the looks of things one of the views that all the retired generals share is that Rumsfeld hadn't been "listening enough."
BATISTE: Harry, within the culture of the military you serve in a chain of command and you have senior commanders.
