Battle at Lee's Mills during the American Civil War was fought on April 16, 1862. The 3d Vermont Infantry Regiment attacked across a creek to attack the Confederate forces that were entrenched in pits only yards from the bank. In the desperate battle that followed drummer Julian Scott made several trips across the fire-swept creek in order to assist in bringing off wounded soldiers. Later he was awarded the Medal of Honor among the First Sergeant Edward Holton and Captain Samuel Pingree.
