The Battle of Chaldiran (also Chaldoran or Çaldiran) occurred on 23 August1514 and ended with a decisive victory for the Ottoman Empire over the Safavids.
The Battle of Chaldiran demonstrated that firearms were a decisive factor in warfare.
That consideration would be a major factor in the decision to move the Safavid capital to Qazvin, in the mid-16th century, and finally to Isfahan, in central Persia, in 1598.
The most significant outcome of the Battle of Chaldiran, however, was the subsequent incorporation into the Ottoman state of the Kurdish principalities in eastern Anatolia and the Turkmen principality of Dulkadir in the Maras-Elbistan region (1515).
The 'momentous' battle in 1514 between the Shiite Persian forces of Şah Ismail and the Sunni Ottoman forces of Sultan Selim I.
Selim I deployed his army on the Plains of Chaldiran in front of the Persians, protected by a screen of irregular cavalry and infantry.
