The Battle of Mount Gilboa described in the BiblicalBook of Samuel[1] (http://www.mechon-mamre.org/p/pt/pt08a31.htm) (1 Samuel 31), was a battle between the Israelites and the Philistines. According to the Biblical account, the Israelite King Saul was defeated and killed here, along with three of his sons (including Jonathan).
MountGilboa, an outlier of the hills of Samaria, bounds the Jezreel plain on the southeast.
MountGilboa was the scene of a tragic event in Jewish history.
David lamented over his death: "Ye mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew, neither let there be rain, upon you..., for there the shield of the mighty is vilely cast away" (2 Samuel 1,21).
